Project Overview
Ready, Set, Reference was created in Spring 2025 for EME 6677: Advanced Instructional Design & Development as a group project. The goal was to design a three-module APA course for college students. I built Module 2, which focused on creating accurate APA 7th edition reference lists through short videos, open resources, interactive practice, and a branching scenario. Kat, a Vyond-created subject matter expert, provides learners with expert tips and guidance throughout the module. The project was developed in TechSmith Articulate Rise and integrates H5P activities, Vyond videos, and a summative Kahoot assessment. I also contributed to the group’s design document and project plan.

Competencies Demonstrated

Communication
  • Communicate effectively in written, oral, and visual formats
  • Produce clear, concise and grammatically correct messages
  • Produce visuals that adhere to the principles of message design
  • Facilitate meetings to achieve agenda and goals
  • Use appropriate tools to communicate with learners, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Practice active listening
The module uses plain, student-friendly language suited for college freshmen. Vyond videos feature a subject-matter expert who shares practical tips with clear visuals based on figure–ground contrast. Articulate Rise and H5P provide interactive practice and quizzes with immediate feedback to strengthen instructor presence in the asynchronous format.
Analysis
  • Analyze learning and performance problems to recommend appropriate solutions
  • Use a variety of analysis practices such as performance system analysis, needs assessment, goal, task, learner, and context analysis.
  • Determine subordinate and prerequisite knowledge and skills.
  • Analyze content from a variety of human and non-human sources
Together with my team, we identified a performance gayp for college freshman who lack formal instruction in APA referencing. As a group we conducted learner and context analysis to identify appropriate content.
Design
  • Apply learning theory and systems thinking to design practice
  • Design interventions to address learning and performance.
  • Design a curriculum, program, or learning solution
  • Align outcomes, strategies, and assessments
  • Generate appropriate instructional strategies and activities
  • Apply interaction design principles
  • Design assessments to measure learning and performance
  • Identify the scope and sequence for instructional solutions
  • Use visual design principles appropriately
  • Generate design documents and disseminate findings to stakeholders
  • Provide a rationale for design decisions
Each team member contributed to the detailed design document covering learning objectives, instructional strategies, assessment plans, and content scope. For Module 2, I ensured all learning objectives were measurable and aligned with the instructional materials and assessments.
Technology and Media
  • Select and use appropriate technology and media for specific outcomes
  • Develop instructional materials using a variety of media
  • Develop and use web-based instruction, e-learning, social media, and content management tools
  • Use technology correctly for professional communication purposes.
  • Use technology tools in the design process
  • Provide a rationale for technology and media decisions
Articulate Rise includes built-in quizzes, responsive design, and easy H5P integration for accessibility across devices. Vyond was selected for its animation capabilities, and Kahoot provided a gamified assessment to motivate and engage learners.
Evaluation and Research
  • Design and develop formative and summative evaluation plans.
  • Conduct a formative evaluation of an instructional intervention.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize data.
  • Provide a rationale for evaluation decisions
The module was reviewed by a group of peers and also received significant feedback from the instructor. I collected feedback for my module, analyzed and summarized suggestions, and revised as needed. The final version includes formative and summative assessments.
Management
  • Develop a management plan.
  • Establish project scope and goals.
  • Collaborate with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Use appropriate management tools
The team used Google Suite, WhatsApp, Outlook, and Zoom to communicate and coordinate work, which was essential since one member was outside the USA. I was responsible for creating meeting agendas and initiating Zoom meetings. I managed my module development timeline while coordinating with team members to meet project deadlines.
Personal and Interpersonal Skills
  • Collaborate effectively with others.
  • Give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Build positive relationships with team members, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Recognize and accommodate individual and cultural differences
  • Stay current about advances in instructional systems and learning technology
I coordinated across time zones for our international teammate and participated in regular peer reviews. I integrated Vyond and Kahoot within Articulate Rise to enhance engagement. The team came together to support a member who was living on campus and directly affected by the April 17, 2025, shooting at Florida State University.
